Since being in lockdown due to COVID-19 my confidence and anxiety has hit the roof making it hard to leave the house most days even for daily exercise or essential shopping, So I have been finding ways at home to keep myself and the children busy by taking up new hobbies and interests one of which is growing our own fruit and vegetables. At the beginning of lock down the worry of feeding my children dawned on me as so many began to panic buy and supermarkets food stock began to grow low. My worry was I would be one of the family’s unable to feed my children if things got really bad, so I decided to start growing fruit and vegetables of my own so I ordered stuff online. I knew it wouldn’t grow over night and it could be a challenge but I had so much time on my hands but that was ok as it also helps to keep my days busy and my mind off the stress and worry go COVID-19.
Katelyn, Rhys and Davina also wanted to help plant some seeds and with them not being able to go to school I thought it would be great for them to learn something new and show them how fruit and vegetables is grown before it goes in to a supermarket. We could only find a few seed in the shops as they soon became a popular purchase I guess everyone had the same idea as me and also wanted ways to keep busy. So far we have planted Leeks, baby carrot, sprouts, lettuce, spring onions and cress which I managed to get delivered along with a little green house. We would love to keep you updated over the upcoming weeks on how our fruit and vegetables is doing.
